In October 2019, Antonis Sakkoulas Law Publications released the book Masonic Law by Philippos Dimitriou, an expert in the law of associations and attorney at the Supreme Court of Greece (Areios Pagos). This original work was initially intended as a doctoral dissertation, but the author chose to publish it as soon as it was completed, for the benefit of the legal and Masonic community, rather than wait four years for the University procedures.
The book was immediately well received by readers. It became a "best-seller" and can be found in the libraries of the Courts, the Bar Associations and many well-known law firms, while its original positions have been adopted by numerous court decisions that cite it explicitly to ground the major premise of their reasoning, overturning theories dating back to the 1960s and leading to the new case law of the Supreme Court (1190/2020).
At the same time, it has drastically reduced intra-Masonic disputes, as it offers lawful and simple preventive solutions to issues such as disciplinary proceedings, schisms, names, relations between Lodges and Grand Lodges, electoral procedures and decision-making in Councils of Officers, obtaining a tax registration number and publishing statutes, and much more. Its extensive introduction also clarifies indeterminate legal concepts such as "secrecy", "brotherhood", "landmarks" and "regularity", as well as the relationship of Freemasonry with religion and the state, points that remain widely misunderstood even in the 21st century.
From now on, the complete book is available FREE OF CHARGE by clicking here (in Greek), through the Masonic Institute of Greece, to help Freemasons, and especially Officers of all Systems, better understand the fundamental issues that concern them. Copying parts of the work for non-commercial purposes is permitted, provided the source is cited.
Of course, for bibliophiles and those maintaining organised libraries, the book remains available for purchase in its print edition (784 pages) from Ant. Sakkoulas Law Publications, 86 Solonos St., Athens.
