Who we are

The Masonic Institute of Greece (MIG) [in Greek: Hellenic Masonic Institute, ΕΤΙ] has been established in 2019 as the independent center of masonic studies. It constitutes the continuation of the Institute of Masonic Research that was established in 1992.

Besides corporate membership, its members are historians, University Professors and other persons, Freemasons or not, that are interested in this social institution.

The Institute operates as a non-profit corporation and its proprietary offices are located in Athens.
The board of Directors is composed by Philip Dimitriou PM, 33ο, MDA, DEA, DU, DESS as its President, Dimosthenes Dimopoulos PAGM, PM, 33ο, as its Vice-President, Professor Nikolaos Koilakos PM, PhD as its Secretary General, Spiros Chourmouziadis, 33o, PM and Stavros Kapnias, as members.

 

 

Our Aims

1The creation of a forum and a center of studies related to the methodic research of the historical path of Freemasonry of every Rite and System, remaining Obedience-independent.

2The support of masonic students by providing specialized and comprehensive bibliography and the encouragement of their participation to the proceedings for the elevation of the Cultural and educational level concerning the institution of Freemasonry and the Masonic Art.

3The supply of authentic material to researchers to facilitate their task.

 

4 The elaboration of educational material and the organization of specialized seminars.

 

5 The collaboration with other study groups, masonic or not, for promoting the Masonic Ideal, within a transparent frame of historical precision, and for the profit of the society.

Collaborations-Publications

The Institute in its publications activity collaborates with the publisher Anagnostis, POLITEIA bookstore, the Greek Scottish Rite Research Society (HEREDOM) and Tetraktys Editions.

The full series of the Magazine of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge no. 2076 (UGLE) is part of the specialized research material of the Institute.

Founding Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Greece

Among the Antiquities of the Institute is the founding Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Greece of 1867 with the portrait of its First Grand Master, Dimitrios Rhodocanakis.

Main meeting room

 The main meeting room offers a peaceful place for coffee and comfortable study hours.

Baal's Bridge Square

A replica of the Baal's Bridge Square (Limerick, Ireland, original in possession of the North Muster Mason's Hall), which carries the phrase, on one side, "I will strive to live with love & care", and the other, "upon the level by the square" and the year 1507.

Templar Writings

Among the specialized Knights Templar books, you will find the original writings of Henri de Curzon, Maillard de Chambure, Fabré-Palaprat and the  Wilhelmsbad Convention Minutes. 

Vers la Lumière

Painting of the French painter Thierry Cousin entitled "Vers la Lumière" , that decorates the Conference Room of the Institute.

EREDOM

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite is the richest Rite worldwide. The Institute and Greek Researchers contribute to the publication of the EREDOM Magazine (Greek edition).
